Liverpool top the Premier League and UEFA Champions League standings before heading into the international break following a brilliant week in which the Reds got the better of Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa in resounding fashion.
Liverpool capped a good week of results with a 2-0 triumph against Aston Villa at Anfield on Sunday to open up a five point gap at the top of the Premier League ahead of the upcoming international break.
Arne Slot’s men had posted a resounding 4-0 win over former star Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Champions League earlier in the week and also occupy the top spot in the revamped elite European competition.
Slot acknowledged his side’s efforts during the crucial period and expressed confidence in being able to replicate the same going ahead on all fronts.
“It was definitely a big week but every game is a big week,” the Dutchman began.
“We play so many games in all these competitions against so many strong opponents, so hopefully we will have a lot of these weeks to come because these weeks are mostly big if you are competing for something and that is what we are doing at the moment,” Slot added.
He added that the season is long and that his side need to maintain their lofty standards throughout especially as they are gunning for honours at four events.
“We are competing, trying to compete for the league, trying to compete for the UEFA Champions League and trying to compete for the cups we are in as well,” the 49-year-old added.

However, the Dutchman did not put it past challengers for the PL to claw their way back into the mix at the top of the English domestic season standings.
“We also know it’s a long season where we have to continuously be on top of our game because the likes of Arsenal, City, and Chelsea, and all these other clubs, are able to win just as many games as we did in the first 15 to 16 games”.
“So, we have to stay on top of our game, which is never going to be easy but we’ll push for it as much as we can,” he concluded.
