New Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim opined that he felt like he belonged at Old Trafford following his high-profile move to the helm of the Premier League side after his successful stint with Sporting Lisbon.

Amorim, who replaces former United manager Erik ten Hag, arrived in England earlier in the week and greeted players who were available at the club’s Carrington training facility amid the ongoing international break.

In his first interview as the United boss, Amorim expressed that one could feel the history of the club upon arrival to its confines.

“You watch on TV and you know that it’s big and it’s impressive, but when you are here you can feel it and I think you feel the history,” Amorim said.

“I’m really, really proud to be a Manchester United coach, so it’s amazing. It’s a real honour to be here,” he added

When a journo reminded the Portuguese manager of the weight of the place, he responded by stating that he felt very relaxed at the moment.

“That’s really funny because I feel very relaxed,” the 39-year-old said.

“Maybe because it’s not gameday. When we have a game I’m a different guy but I really don’t feel the weight,” he clarified.

The former Sporting Lisbon head coach, who led the Leoes to two domestic league titles in his four years in charge of the capital city side, stated that he feels that he is exactly where he is supposed to be with the fabled English side.

“I’m really excited and I’m quite relaxed you know,” he added.

“I think I am where I am supposed to be. That’s the feeling,” Amorim concluded.

Amorim helped Sporting end their 19-year title drought in the Portuguese league and would look to replicate his showings on English shores with United, who are yet to reclaim the Premier League title which they last clinched in 2013 under the stewardship of the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.
