Due to globalization and tremendous modernization in the society, many changes in lifestyle pattern, diet pattern, environment and socializing reasons are found to be creating enormous complication in the health system. Hence, prevalence of diabetes mellitus is also increasing. A well-balanced diet with minimum carbs, high protein and fibre with loads of vegetables, sprouts, green leafy vegetables and plenty of fluids helps to maintain the glycaemic levels for diabetics.

Along with the diet, physical activity plays a major role in maintenance of sugar levels. Research says maintaining both, regular physical activity and a healthy diet, reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases in later stage. Studies shows that in women, sufficient physical activity is decreasing by 0.3% per year, whereas in men it is observed to be lowering by 0.5% per year. Sleep disorder is also increasing in uncontrolled diabetics. Meditation, yoga practices and breathing exercises are few techniques to be followed to maintain blood sugar levels. Prevalence of early diabetes in younger generation is more and is in increasing trend due to lifestyle habits like late night entertainment and physical inactiveness with unhealthy diet pattern. Hence, moderation is the key on consuming alcohol. Avoid smoking, vaping and tobacco chewing as it increases the risk of developing cancer in diabetics.

The main causes being increased urbanization, nutrition transition and reduced physical activity and health being an important component in emotional, mental, social, spiritual wellbeing in present scenario. A well holistic approach, like healthy diet, active life style with good sleep and developing healthy habits would be always best to maintain diabetes.
