The bail hearing of Hindu monk and ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das is set to come up for hearing in Bangladesh on Tuesday. Top Intelligence sources have told CNN-News18 that the main reason for the arrest of Das is that the Jamaat-e-Islami is upset with the consolidation of Hindus under ISKCON.

Sources said the Jamaat wants to curb the Hindu movement in Bangladesh as soon as possible. “Jamaat feels the Hindus movement may give space to Awami league and legitimate polls and they may be banned again,” sources said.

Sources said that a Hindu uprising has been seen in Bangladesh under ISKCON, specially after the exit of Sheikh Hasina. There have been a large number of protests and rallies organised by ISKCON in Bangladesh.

According to sources, the Hindu uprising in Bangladesh gained momentum after murders and attacks on Hindus in the country. After Hasina’s departure, protests against persecution of Hindus were started by ISKCON in Bangladesh. There have been protests against forced conversions, land grabbing, and violence.

Sources said Jamaat was also upset due to international support to Hindus in Bangladesh. The protests by Hindus got international attention, with many human rights organisations and Hindu groups expressing solidarity with the ISKCON-led movement.

According to top sources in the Indian government, the Muhammad Yunus government and army want to work with India, but pressure from the Jamaat has not been allowing them to take free decisions.

Meanwhile, the Indian government has expressed concern over the arrest of the ISKCON leader. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), in a statement, said,”We have noted with deep concern the arrest and denial of bail to Shri Chinmoy Krishna Das, who is also the spokesperson of the Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatan Jagran Jote. This incident follows the multiple attacks on Hindus and other minorities by extremist elements in Bangladesh. There are several documented cases of arson and looting of minorities’ homes and business establishments, as well as theft and vandalism and desecration of deities and temples.”

“It is unfortunate that while the perpetrators of these incidents remain at large, charges should be pressed against a religious leader presenting legitimate demands through peaceful gatherings. We also note with concern the attacks on minorities protesting peacefully against the arrest of Shri Das,” the MEA said.
