The US President-elect Donald Trump plans to pursue a “maximum pressure” policy so far as Iran is concerned, as per the Wall Street Journal. The reported strategy is aimed at forcing Tehran to reduce its support to armed allies in the Middle East and rein in its nuclear programme. As part of the plan, Trump is likely to impose increased sanctions on Iran and throttle its oil sales, reports WSJ. During his first term at the White House, Trump pulled the US out of the six-nation Iran nuclear deal, also known as JCPOA. He also imposed a “maximum pressure” strategy in hopes Iran would abandon nuclear weapon ambitions and stop funding its allies such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah.
