Liverpool ex-defender Jamie Carragher has opined Manchester United should part ways with Bruno Fernandes to ‘raise funds’ at the club.

Since his debut for the Red Devils, Bruno has been a top performer for the multi-time Premier League champions. He emerged as the club’s beacon of hope during the tough times.

Referring to Bruno’s immense talent, Carragher has suggested that the Portuguese midfielder would have shone brighter if he was surrounded by quality players at Old Trafford.

In his column for The Telegraph, the retired Liverpool fullback wrote that there might be ‘value’ in selling the 30-year-old as he is one of the few players who can attract a ‘significant’ fee.

While Jamie Carragher recognised Bruno Fernandes’ talent, he felt that the 30-year-old midfielder also created certain problems for Manchester United.

In his article, Carragher claimed that Bruno can sometimes be ‘indisciplined’ with or without the ball. According to him, Bruno made it harder for his team to defend as a compact unit because he chased the ball all over the pitch. Carragher later acknowledged that Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim may look at the prospect differently while considering building the team around Fernandes with shrewd additions. However, selling should be a consideration for the Sporting Lisbon ex-manager as per the Liverpool ex-defender.

Bruno Fernandes recently signed a one-year extension with Manchester United that would keep him at Old Trafford until 2027. His latest contract also has the option of extending for another year. Bruno later revealed that he also had received ‘concrete offers’ to leave the club before he signed the new deal. He even admitted there was a possibility of his departure from the club.

“Even because I was approached [by other clubs], the club was aware that there was a possibility of me leaving, I had concrete offers,” Bruno told ESPN Brasil’s Thiago D’Amaral.

Despite receiving multiple offers, Bruno Fernandes was focused on staying at Manchester United. He revealed that his club ‘needed’ him and were willing to try different things to improve their results.

“The club showed that it needed me, that it was at a time of change and that they wanted to do things differently,” Bruno said. He then thanked Manchester United officials for their confidence in him. “This vote of confidence from the club was very important for me,” he added.

Bruno Fernandes was made Manchester United captain last summer under the management of the club’s ex-manager Erik ten Hag. Bruno will now have his eyes set on leading his side to more trophies in the Ruben Amorim era.
