Kajol once opened up about who her version of Anjali from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai would pick between SRK’s Rahul and Salman Khan’s Aman

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, directed by Karan Johar, completed 26 years today, October 16. The romantic comedy featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol lives in our minds rent-free. Rani Mukerji and Salman Khan were also a part of the film. In the movie, Kajol essayed the role of a spunky and free-spirited woman Anjali who had to make the tough decision of choosing between two men — Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) and Aman (Salman Khan). Now, as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai turned a year older, an old interview of Kajol has gone viral where the actress revealed which character her “version” of Anjali would have picked.

Last year, in an interaction with Humans of Bombay, Kajol opened up about the evolution of Anjali. She mentioned that her version of Anjali would wear track pants with sneakers instead of a saree. “My version of Anjali would never be wearing a saree. She would be wearing those track pants and fab, expensive sneakers with it and make that look good,” she said.

When asked to choose between Rahul and Aman, Kajol revealed, “On script level, maybe I would have gone with Salman’s character, but in the film, if you watch the film, there is no choice about the ending; it has to be the way it is.”

At the beginning of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Anjali is portrayed to be a tomboy who later falls for her best friend Rahul. However, Rahul was head over heels in love with Tina (Rani Mukerji). After a leap of eight years, Anjali transforms into a gorgeous woman whose marriage is fixed with Aman. But after a turn of events, Rahul realises Anjali’s love for him and she marries him on the same day as her wedding with Aman.

When Karan Johar’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai turned 25 last year, Kajol took a trip down memory lane and dressed up as Anjali. She shared a video on Instagram and captioned, “Stepping back into Anjali’s shoes after 25 years (I couldn’t find the basketball, though). So many memories and love attached to this film. So glad that everyone loves it as much as I do. A first for Karan Johar and the beginning of an amazing journey for Dharma movies. Fabulous music that still resonates, even today. KKHH is and always will be a labour of love.”

Workwise, Kajol will next be seen in Netflix’s Do Patti co-starring Kriti Sanon.
