Manu Bhaker’s revelation draws reaction from PV Sindhu

The video of Manu Bhaker went viral and even garnered Sindhu’s attention. The two-time Olympic medalist then took to social media and reacted to Bhaker’s gesture.

Manu Bhaker has been on a roll in the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024. The young shooter from Haryana had a massive heartbreak in the previous edition of the Olympic Games, in Tokyo 2020, when she was disqualified due to a weapon malfunction. But she bounced back terrifically in Paris, clinching two bronze medals in three days.

Bhaker opened India’s medal tally with a bronze in the 10m Air Pistol women’s individual event and yen, won the same honour in the mixed team 10m air pistol event, with Sarabjot Singh. She thus became the first-ever athlete from independent India to have won two medals in a single edition of the Olympic Games.

Bhaker has certainly become an inspiration for the country but how obsessed she was with the likes of PV Sindhu and Neeraj Chopra, that she revealed in an interview. Speaking to Sportstar after her victory in the bronze medal game, Bhaker said she used to make fake profiles to defend Sindhu on social media against the trolls.

“I have always known the greats in Indian sports history. In my time, I have always known (PV) Sindhu and Neeraj (Chopra). I have always appreciated them for their hard work. There was this one time when I made a fake profile to defend Sindhu. Some haters commented and I got so triggered that I made a fake account to defend her on that,” Manu Bhaker told Sportstar.

The video soon went viral and even garnered Sindhu’s attention. The two-time Olympic medalist then took to social media and reacted to Bhaker’s gesture.

“Haha what a sweetheart!!! Welcome to the 2 Olympic medal club Manu!! Way to go,” Sindhu wrote on X.

Bhaker and Sarabjot on Tuesday defeated the Korean duo of Lee Wonoho and Oh Yeh Jin 16-10. It just added to Bhaker’s growth story as she completely wiped off the memories of a horrendous Olympic debut in Tokyo 2020 where her pistol malfunctioned leaving her in tears.

And it’s not over yet. She remains in contention for another podium finish — in the 25m sports pistol event, the qualification for which will take place on August 2.
