Shuttler Suhas Yathiraj, who was born with a congenital deformity in his left ankle, continues to shine at the global level.
Shuttler Suhas Yathiraj has become a two-time Paralympic medallist. On Monday, he went down in the the men’s singles SL4 final to Lucas Mazur of France. However, in the process, he created history by becoming the first ever Indian para shuttler to clinch multiple medals at Paralympics.
Suhas had earlier won silver at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
An IAS officer from the 2007 batch of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, the 41-year-old has served as the District Magistrate of Gautam Buddha Nagar. Thanks to his achievements in para badminton, Suhas was bestowed with the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2021.

Suhas has a congenital deformity in his left ankle which impacted his mobility.
He early education took place at Dudda, near Hassan district. He attended DVS Independent College in Shivamogga, Karnataka, for the majority of his secondary schooling.
Suhas excelled in academics and has degree in Computer Engineering from the National Institute of Technology (NIT). He was later selected into the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
Despite a late start to his career in para badminton, Suhas rose to become a top shuttler in a very short span of time and entered the Paris Paralympics as the top-ranked men’s singles player. Besides multiple national titles, he has also won a gold medal at the Asian Para Games 2022 in Hangzhou.
