A day after Assad’s ouster, the Syrian rebel leader reportedly met with the outgoing Syrian Prime Minister. During the meeting on Dec. 9, HTS chief Mohammed al-Jolani discussed the “transfer of power”, with Mohammed al-Jalali. Jolani met Jalali “to coordinate a transfer of power that guarantees the provision of services” to Syria’s people, said a statement. The meeting was also attended by Mohammed Bashir, who heads the rebels’ “Salvation Government” in their northwest Syria bastion. Bashir’s name has been circulating as the most likely candidate for Prime Minister in the transitional government post-Assad administration. Meanwhile, the outgoing Syrian PM has said that he was ready to “cooperate” with any leadership chosen by the people. The rebel-led “Salvation Government” was set up in 2017 to assist people cut off from government services in Idlib. Authorities from the area have already started returning to services in Syria’s rebel-seized Aleppo city.
