Manchester United new boss Ruben Amorim will make his Old Trafford debut in the side’s UEFA Europa League fixture against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday as the Portuguese gaffer settles into his role at the helm of the Red Devils.

His first outing as United’s head coach ended in a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town at Portman Road in the Premier League on Sunday, and the 39-year-old would look to pick up his first win as the manager of the Reds with a triumph in front of the side’s passionate home crowd.

“It is said to me that it will be a special time,” Amorim said ahead of the game.

“I just want to win the game, just to give that happiness to the supporters,” he added.

“Before the match, it will be like a new sensation but after the whistle, it will be one more game and we want to win that match,” the Portuguese added.

Amorim deployed a three-at-the-back tactic against Ipswich, a formation which had paid dividends for him at his former club Sporting Lisbon, but acknowledged that it could take United players a while to adapt to the system.

“It’s important when you are putting an idea. If you win it’s a big help,” he opened up.

“You can say that this is a different league so it’s harder than in Portugal, but I also have more experienced players and all these guys play for national teams,” he continued.

“They just need to increase their confidence and at the moment I don’t know how to answer that question. I don’t know how long,” Amorim added.

He added that the system might be even more difficult to implement citing the congested match calendar, but assured that he would back the players through the process.

“But I will know that with a lot of games without time to train it will be tough for me but it will be tougher for them because they are on the pitch and they will suffer a little bit,” he stated.

“I will try to help and we have to manage to win some games and try to increase that idea in the team,” the 39-year-old added.

Amorim also spoke about misfiring forward Marcus Rashford, who has had a torrid time in recent years but managed to open the scoring for United within the first two minutes of the game against Ipswich on Amorim’s debut United bow.

“We will try to find the right solution for him, as for the other players,” Amorim said.

“He has to be Marcus, first of all, to try to return to that moment. Then he will have the help of all the staff, all the club and all the fans because he’s a Manchester United boy. But he has to be the first one to really want it,” the United gaffer signed off.
