It takes a village to mould a champion, and well, Vinesh Phogat got in touch with the one which raised her following her emphatic semifinal win against Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez.
Phogat completely outclassed and outmuscled the reigning Pan-American champions Guzman enroute to her 5-0 win over the Cuban.
With her win, Phogat became the first female Indian wrestler to ever make it to a Olympic final, as she assures India yet another medal in their Paris 2024 campaign.

Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who has been in the midst of controversy galore over the past year, got off to a trailblazing start at the Paris Olympics, as she sunk the reigning world champion Japan’s Yui Susaki in the first round of the Women’s 50kg Freestyle event at the Paris Olympics.
Vinesh’s win also marks a historic first loss in international circuits for the top-seeded Japanese Susaki, who did not concede a single point enroute to her hold during the Tokyo Games in 2020
Vinesh Phogat’s dream run in the Paris Olympics continued after her overhaul of the reigning champion, as the Indian wrestler got the better of Ukraine’s Oksana Livach in the quarterfinals of the 50kg Women’s Freestyle event.
Phogat showcased her experience and vigilance as she surgically dismantled Livach 7-5 to seal her spot in the semifinal.
The ace wrestler followed it up with an even more clinical performance in the semis, taking down Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez 5-0 to seal her spot in the final of the Women’s 50kg Freestyle.
