Portuguese football club Sporting CP paid a unique tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo. The club recently unveiled their third kit in honour of Ronaldo. The kit was designed with a golden number seven on the front and it was shared on social media along with a video that featured Ronaldo’s son donning the newly designed shirt.
Over the years, Ronaldo has sported the iconic number 7 jersey for sides like Real Madrid, Manchester United and Portugal. “There are numbers that leave a Legacy: the next 7 could be you! In honour of Cristiano Ronaldo, we invite you to wear the third kit of the 24/25 season,” read the post shared by the Portuguese side on X (formerly Twitter).
This is, however, not the first time Sporting CP honoured Cristiano Ronaldo by unveiling a customised jersey. In August last year, they did something similar by launching a Ronaldo-themed shirt. The “best in the world” Ronaldo and the club’s home ground Estadio Jose Alvalade were honoured in a throwback kit released for 2023-24.
“Travel back in time with us to 2003. It’s the 6th of August. Imagine you are at the grand opening of the new Estádio José Alvalade. The referee is about to kick off the match against Manchester United FC… We’ve returned to this moment, recaptured the best of this day and the best of what is Made In Sporting. We now invite you to go back to the future, 20 years ahead and five Ballon d’Or awards later,” Sporting CP wrote in a statement on the club’s official website.
“It’s the 6th of August 2023. It’s our home’s anniversary, and we have prepared a very special gift for you. Introducing our new Lion Skin, inspired by the kit used in 2003, celebrating the 20 years of Estádio José Alvalade’s existence. A unique jersey that completes a virtuous triangle between Sporting CP, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Nike. The best in the world, united in one, and a memorable jersey,” the statement added.
One of the most prolific goalscorers in the history of football, Ronaldo started his career at Sporting CP. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner rose through the ranks at Sporting CP and played for the first team before completing a blockbuster move to English giants Manchester United. The 39-year-old is currently plying his trade for Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr.
