The actor shared that at one point in his life, he had only Rs 50,000 in his bank account.

Ali Merchant recently opened up about his journey in the industry. In an interview, Ali looked back at his journey and recalled the time when he was forced to sell his car because he could not afford to pay the EMIs.

Ali Merchant told IANS, “I had to sell my car as I couldn’t afford the EMI, and there was a point when I had only 50k left in my account and all my savings were over.” He added the crisis impacted him badly at the time, but he dedicated himself to learning music and DJing for three to four years. To improve his acting skills, he watched a lot of theatre plays “to unlearn” all that he had learned while working on TV.

Ali also shared the most important lessons he learned from taking that road. The actor mentioned that he understood the importance of listening to one’s heart and that “the mind will always put you in doubt, leading you to make a safer decision. “In performing arts, always follow your heart,” Ali added.

The actor stated that once he started DJing professionally, he travelled a lot and learned about different cultures and people. This helped him understand “realistic acting” better.

He added, “Watching a lot of world cinema helped me connect the dots, and when I finished my first film, I felt my decision to leave TV was right.”

Ali Merchant mentioned that he was quite satisfied, and eagerly waiting for his film to release so that he can approach people he wants to work with in the future.

While the title of Ali’s upcoming film is still under wraps, it is reportedly being produced by Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s brother, Faizuddin Siddiqui.

Ali Merchant has been a part of serials like Ambar Dhara, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Bandini, and Sadda Haq, among others. He was also seen hosting the popular celebrity dance show Nach Baliye 4.
