Android users need to go through multiple hoops to turn on Wi-Fi but soon that could change for good.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings were changed in Android 12

Android has undergone major design changes over the years, some that have been loved, but there are some that annoy people. One of them is related to activating Wi-Fi on the phone, which requires a two-step process for some reason.

Well, it seems Google has heard the complaints of many and is ready to simplify this step with Android 16 next year. The new version of Android will have some design changes that could allow you to resize the tools in the control panel.

The details about these updates come via Android Authority, which also points out that the next Android version will let you turn on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth with a single tap. To be fair, Google introduced a big change with its panel in Android 12 by merging Wi-Fi and mobile data into the same tile.

You could say the change was helpful and allowed the company to bring more tools to the panel but many felt that the functional side was not considered while making this design tweak. So, by the time Android 16 comes in 2025, you might see the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turn on with a single tap, and probably need to hard-press the tiles to get further into the connectivity settings on your smartphone.

Having said that, we’re yet to fully see the Android 15 update come to a wide range of phones, especially Samsung, which seems to have fallen into its old bad habits this year. The company is unlikely to have the new version ready for roll out before early 2025. OnePlus has shared its Android 15 update timeline, at least for the beta, while Vivo is already bringing the new version out of the box.
