Celebrated actor Mithun Chakraborty will be honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to Indian cinema. As the actor adds another feather in his cap, he has reacted to this huge win in his career.

Speaking exclusively to CNN News18, Mithun Chakraborty has spoken up about being honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. The actor reflected on his journey in Indian cinema and shared that he still could not believe that he had been awarded this honour. He said, “It’s a very painful journey of mine. When I got the National Award, it was like the Oscars for me. I still don’t know what is happening with me, I could not believe that I got this award.”

The news of this honour was shared by the Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, Electronics, and IT – Ashwini Vaishnaw, on X (formerly known as Twitter). The minister wrote, “Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema. To be presented at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on Oct 8, 2024.”

Born in Kolkata in 1950 as Gouranga Chakraborty, the actor made his debut in Bollywood in 1976 with Mrinal Sen’s Mrigyaa. He won the National Film Award for Best Actor for his role. He became a household name after starring in Disco Dancer in 1982. The film made him one of the biggest actors in Bollywood. Since then, he has worked in several Hindi and Bengali films and has received several accolades. He is a recipient of three National Film Awards.

On the work front, he was last seen in The Kashmir Files where he played the role of IAS Brahma Dutt.
